Deslot · Slot-car racing

One throttle.
Don't deslot.

A floating deck of hexagonal tiles at night, a two-lane slot track that glows, and one input: the throttle. Take a bend too fast and the guide blade jumps the slot. Lift before the hairpin, push through the banked curve, keep your foot down in the loop.

The home deck: a two-lane slot track with a loop, a crossover and boosters on a floating hexagonal deck at night, a cyan and an amber car racing, and a vertical throttle
THE HOME DECK

Six cars, five worlds

Each car uses the throttle its own way

Pulse charges cells when you lift and spends them on a burst. Clamp's magnets hold the slot through the bends and drag on the straights. Glide is the fastest and can catch one slide per bend. Arc surges the longer it stays flat out, until it overheats. Weave hops lanes on any straight. Anvil can't be knocked off at a crossover.

Five worlds of three events each bend the physics their own way: sand that drifts across the bends in Glass Dunes, ice and half gravity on Cryo Moon, heat zones in Reactor Core, zero-g loops on Orbit Ring. Stars for finishing, winning and beating par open the next world and the car that suits it.

  • A track builder: lay pieces tile by tile, curves, hairpins, banked curves, boosters, lane changers, crossovers and loops, then add hazards, scenery and a world's colours.
  • Ghosts: your best lap on each loop races beside you.
  • Made on the device: every car, track and world is drawn by the game's own Metal renderer, and every sound, the motor's whine included, is made as you play.
Glass Dunes: a winding track on a sand-coloured deck with dunes, sand lying across some of the bends
GLASS DUNES
Reactor Core: a long track on a dark red deck with glowing heat zones on the straights and cooling stacks, and Arc's heat and surge meters

Racing others

Round the table, across the room, anywhere

Lay an iPad flat and race up to four people on it, each with a throttle in their own corner. Race two to four devices in the same room with no internet, or anyone online through Game Center. Publish your deck to the Circuit with your best lap on it, race other builders' ghosts on theirs, and vote each week for the track of the week.

The Circuit runs on iCloud; there is no sign-up and no account of ours. Other players see your deck, your ghost and the name you race under, and nothing else about you. Names pass a word filter, every deck can be reported or blocked, and the Circuit has rules that publishing agrees to.

The table: four lanes seen from above, two players' throttles at the top turned to face across the table and two computer seats at the bottom
