What Nectar is

Nectar is a beekeeping game for iPhone and iPad. You plant a garden, the bees make honey from it, and you jar the honey by hand. Everything about your garden is played on your device. The town, which you can join or not, is the one part of the game that other players share.

If you never join the town

Nothing leaves your device. Your garden is saved in the app's own storage, your settings (sound, haptics, reminders) in the app's own preferences, and the photos and clips you take in photo mode in the app's own folder. The Home Screen widget reads a small summary of your hive (how full it is, the weather, your beds in bloom) from a container shared only between Nectar and its widget. None of it is sent anywhere.

If you join the town

Joining publishes what other players need to see your garden and trade with you. It is stored in the public database of Nectar's iCloud container, which Apple runs:

Your garden: its layout, flowers, hives and decorations, so others can visit it; its name and the words on its sign. It is updated while you play.
Jars you sell: each jar's honey, its label and its price, and a record when someone buys it.
Votes you cast for the week's best garden and best honey.
The honey show and the fair: the jar you enter in the week's show, and the honey you give to the season's fair, each with your garden's name.
Reports you make about another garden or jar: what you reported and why. Only you and we can read them.

Each of these records is owned by an identifier iCloud gives you for Nectar alone. It is not your Apple Account, your name or your email address; Nectar never sees those, and other players cannot learn them from the town.

Other players can read your garden, its name and sign, and your jars for sale. That is the point of the town, so please do not put anything personal in a name, sign or label.

What we do not collect

No contact details, no location, no contacts, no photos from your library, no advertising identifier, no analytics, no crash reports and no usage data. There are no third-party SDKs in the app. Nectar does not track you across other apps or websites.

Notifications

Nectar asks once whether it may send reminders, after your first jar of honey, and does nothing until you say yes. Reminders about your hive and beds are scheduled on your device. If you are in the town, a notification that one of your jars has sold comes from iCloud, which knows which sales are yours because the sale record names you, by that iCloud identifier, as the seller. Nothing else is sent to make either kind work.

What the app asks your device for

Nectar's privacy manifest declares that it reads and writes its own preferences (to remember your settings) and that it reads the time since the device started (to time the harvest's extractor between frames). It asks for no camera, microphone, location, contacts or photo library access. Photos and clips you share go through the standard share sheet, which saves them to Photos only if you choose to.

How long it is kept, and deleting it

Deleting the app removes your garden and everything kept on your device. Records you published to the town stay in the town until they are deleted, so delete them first: in the town, open Stall and tap Leave the town. That deletes your garden, your jars for sale (unsold jars come back to your shelf) and your show entries. Honey you gave to this season's fair keeps counting toward the town's goal, but your garden's name is taken off it.

Some records stay, because they are part of other players' games: the votes you cast and the reports you made, which carry no name, and jars you sold, which now belong to their buyers and keep the name of the garden they came from, as a label would. If you have already deleted the app, or would like anything else removed, write to support@pablin.me with your garden's name.

Gardens, signs and labels that break the town rules may be removed from the town at any time.

Purchases and advertising

There are none. Nectar has no in-app purchases, no subscriptions and no advertising. The honey and grams in the game are not money and cannot be bought or cashed out.

Children's privacy

Nectar does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age. The town asks for no personal information: only a name for your garden, which should not be your own.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page, and describe the change here if it affects what the town keeps.
