Privacy
Tally does not collect, transmit, or share any of your data — with us or anyone else. Everything you enter stays on your device. There are no accounts and no servers of ours. Tally makes no network calls of its own; the only exception is the App Store itself, if you choose to buy Tally Pro, and that purchase is handled entirely by Apple.
Tally is a personal finance app for iPhone and iPad that helps you track expenses, subscriptions, debt, and savings goals, and narrates your financial picture using Apple's on-device AI. It was built around one deliberate constraint: your financial information never has to leave your device to be useful.
None. Tally has no user accounts, no sign-in, no analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, and no crash-reporting service. Tally has no networking code of its own: it never opens a connection to send us — or anyone else — anything you enter. We do not know how many people use Tally, what they put into it, or how they use it, because none of that information is ever sent anywhere. The one piece of network activity in the app belongs to Apple rather than to us, and is described under Tally Pro and the App Store below.
Every transaction, subscription, debt, goal, and setting you enter is stored in a local database on your device only, protected by iOS Data Protection (your data is encrypted while your device is locked). Nothing is synced to iCloud, backed up to a server we operate, or copied anywhere outside your device's own storage — and any standard iPhone backup you make yourself (iCloud or Finder) is between you and Apple, governed by Apple's own policies, not ours.
When you view your Insights or ask a question about your finances, Tally uses Apple Intelligence (Apple's on-device Foundation Models) to turn your already-computed numbers into plain-language analysis. This processing happens entirely on your device. Your financial data is never sent to Apple, to us, or to any other server to generate this analysis — if your device doesn't support Apple Intelligence, or it's turned off, Tally simply shows a plain summary instead.
Tally Pro is an optional one-time purchase that unlocks the AI analysis, the "Ask Tally" chat, the expense-flow diagram, and the Home Screen widgets. Everything else in Tally is free.
Buying it, restoring it, or simply opening the purchase screen uses Apple's StoreKit, which talks to Apple's own App Store servers. That is the only network activity in the app, and it works the same way as any other App Store purchase: we never see it. Tally has no server and no payment processing of its own, so we receive no payment details, no Apple Account information, and no record of who bought anything. Apple tells the app one thing only — whether this Apple Account is entitled to Tally Pro — and Tally stores nothing about the purchase itself.
None of your financial data is involved. Nothing you have entered into Tally is read, attached, or transmitted during a purchase. What Apple collects when you buy something from the App Store is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not this one.
If you turn on the optional app lock, Tally asks iOS to verify you with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. This is handled entirely by iOS itself, using Apple's standard system prompt — Tally never receives, sees, or stores any biometric data. We only ever learn whether the system said "yes" or "no."
Tally lets you export a full backup (JSON) or per-category spreadsheets (CSV) at any time, from Settings. This file is generated on your device and handed to the standard iOS share sheet — you choose exactly where it goes (Files, Mail, AirDrop, a third-party app, etc.). Once you share an export outside of Tally, its handling is governed by wherever you sent it, not by us. Exported files are not encrypted by Tally itself, so treat them the way you'd treat any other financial document.
You can erase everything Tally has stored at any time from Settings → "Erase all data." This happens instantly and locally — there is no remote copy for us to delete, because none was ever created.
Tally is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age — since the app collects no information at all, this applies equally to every user.
If this policy ever changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Given Tally's design, we don't expect that to happen often — the core promise (nothing leaves your device) is a product decision, not a policy we could quietly walk back.
