What Rake is

Rake relights a photo after it was taken. It reads how far away each part of the picture is — the depth a Portrait-mode photo carries, or an estimate made on your device for any other photo — and lets you place lights that wrap around your subject and cast shadows. It runs on iPhone and iPad.

Information we collect

None. Rake has no user accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising identifiers, no crash-reporting service and nothing to buy. There is no networking code in the app: it never opens a connection to send us — or anyone else — anything at all. We do not know how many people use it, which photos they relight, or whether they use it, because none of that is ever sent anywhere.

Your photos

Photos come into Rake through the system photo picker. The picker is part of iOS, not of Rake: you choose a photo there, and Rake receives that one photo and nothing else. It never asks to read your photo library, and it cannot see the photos you did not pick.

The photo you pick is decoded and relit in the app's memory, on your device's processor and graphics chip. Rake does not upload it, does not keep a copy of it in its own storage, and lets it go when you pick another photo or the app is closed.

When a photo carries no depth of its own, Rake estimates it with a depth model that is built into the app — Depth Anything V2 Small, in Apple's Core ML conversion. It runs on your device like the rest of the app. The photo is not sent to the model's authors, to Apple, or to anyone.

Saving and sharing

A relit photo leaves Rake only when you choose to save or send it through the system share sheet.

Save Image writes the photo into your library. The first time, iOS asks whether Rake may add photos. That permission is add-only: it lets Rake put a photo into your library and does not let it read anything already there. You can change it in the Settings app, under Privacy & Security, Photos.
Sending the photo through Messages, Mail, AirDrop or any other app hands it to that app. From then on, its handling is governed by whatever you sent it through rather than by us.

What stays on your device

Rake keeps three settings of its own in the app's preferences: whether you have seen the guide, whether the controls are collapsed, and which sections of the controls are closed. They contain nothing about you or your photos. They belong to Rake alone — there is no app group and no shared container, so no other app can read them — and they are never sent anywhere.

Purchases, advertising and third parties

There are none. Rake has no in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no advertising and no third-party SDKs. The depth model described above is a file inside the app, not a service: it has no code that reaches the internet.

Deleting your data

Deleting the app removes its settings from your device. There is nothing else to delete and no remote copy for us to remove, because none was ever made. Photos you saved with Save Image are yours, in your library, and stay there until you delete them.

Children's privacy

Rake does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age. Since the app collects nothing at all, this applies equally to everyone who uses it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Given how the app is built, with no networking and nothing kept about you, we do not expect that to happen often.
